INTERNET NEWS
Microsoft XP
Microsoft recently ceased sales of the popular Windows XP operating system. XP was sold and installed on PCs over a period of 9 years from 2001. With Microsoft stopping development for XP, what is the future for users? Microsoft plans no further Service Packs or feature enhancements for the OS. But given the astounding number of people still using XP, Microsoft says it will provide XP security updates through April 2014. This should mean that Windows XP can be safely used for another 3 years giving you plenty of time to plan for upgrading or PC replacement (a lot changes in the computing world in 3 years).

HANDY SOFTWARE
Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0
Microsoft has released its second edition of its popular security software package, Security Essentials. Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) 2.0 features a new scanning engine, integration with Windows Firewall, plus network traffic monitoring. We have been using this antivirus software on a couple of our PCs and have found it to be very good. It doesn’t use a lot of system resources like some other paid software and doesn’t cause probelms like the recent AVG issue. We recommend using Microsoft Security Essentials to protect your compter – it isn’t often we find software this good and available without charge.
TheSage 4.0.1774
